Interview with Eric Miller - Chicostart

Eric Miller is a man of many titles; husband, father, teacher, and writer. Currently Eric keeps busy with his blog Etc. Guy, teaching at Chico State, writing for Central Valley Business Times, Hockey Player Magazine, and most recently is working on a book titled A Wild & Fantastic Dream: A History of the Browns Valley Irrigation District. While he is passionate about all of his projects, the latter is currently taking up most of his time. Eric has been doing endless research on the irrigation in Brown’s valley which has led him to discover a myriad of other things relating to the irrigation in this small area of Browns Valley. Eric’s interest in the environment began when he studied hydrology in Colorado before making his way to SoCal to become a chemist. He then planned on writing for NorthState Voice about the environment, but was asked to write a column about his everyday life instead. This step out of his comfort zone brought great things for Eric. The success of his column led him to start a blog, and thanks to a photo he posted of himself which went viral, he was able to turn his blog into a book. While his book highlights the more comical parts of his life, his passion for writing really comes out when he speaks about his current project of Browns Valley Irrigation District. Eric has found joy in pouring over old records and newspaper clippings that could possibly contribute to his book which he hopes will be finished by this December.Eric-300x300-300x300

Eric came to ChicoStart because we are one of the few places in town offering a quality WiFi connection, but has stuck around because of the fellow entrepreneurs in the office. Eric loves being around a group of people that are so passionate about what they do, and work hard to make their business it all that it can be. In the grand scheme of things, Eric says while he is perfectly happy writing for various magazines, he would love to make writing a full time job and possibly even turn it into a public speaking career.
